Best TV Shows Of The Summer

Oh baby, 2021! What a summer for Television! From a Rose Byrne dramedy to Owen Wilson joining the Marvel universe, it’s been a great season of unexpected shows. Check out the shows we can’t get enough of.

Is it just us or does it feel like tv has turned a corner? Ever since The Queen’s Gambit, shows have been taking bigger risks and gotten a whole hell of a lot more creative. Take a look at the shows that had us buzzing all summer long.

Physical (AppleTV+)

Rose Byrne stars in this dark comedy about an 80’s housewife struggling with an eating disorder and finding success in the world of aerobics. What sets this show apart is her cruel inner monologue and how she's devoured by insecurities. It's the first time we've seen eating disorders portrayed like this and it will have you questioning the way you talk to yourself.

Full Bloom Season 2 (HBOmax)

Yes, we know, another competition series BUT this one involves the artistry of flower arranging. Season 2 is packed with outrageously creative competitors and the challenges deliver entertainment and awe. The series is easy, casual viewing with heart and beauty.

Schmigadoon! (AppleTV+)

The musical tv show we never knew we needed. Cecily Strong and Keegan-Michael Key star in this comedy series about a couple on the rocks landing in a musical akin to Oklahoma. They're trapped with singing cliches and colorful set pieces. The show hosts some terrific costars, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Fred Armisen and Martin Short to name a few. The music is fun, the costumes are great and the real life relationship drama is actually quite relatable.

Loki (Disney+)

The Marvel Universe evokes either eye rolls or obsession but some how the Loki tv series lives in a world of its own. Loki brings in Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw alongside Tom Hiddleston. The show is a total mind trip taking Loki captive to find variations of himself across the timeline of the universe. If anything, you'll appreciate the production design, its unlike any Marvel world we've seen before.

The White Lotus (HBOmax)

Hands down, the number one best show of the summer, The White Lotus. This dark comedy follows a group of guests staying at a luxury resort in Hawaii. The series was created by Mike White of (HBO's Enlightened) and stars Jennifer Coolidge, Connie Britton, Steve Zahn, Jake Lacy, Alexandra Daddario and Murray Bartlett. Over the course of the series, the picture-perfect paradise becomes increasingly complex with each relationship hitting a boiling point.
